The ITF & WTA pathway

Four levels. A different job for the coach at each one.

Each level has its own rules, entry system and ranking logic. The coach’s role is to know them — and to decide when the player is ready for the next step.

What an ITF & WTA coach does

Six responsibilities on the tour

01

Season & tournament planning

An annual calendar built around the major goals: entry and withdrawal deadlines, points to defend, surfaces, countries, performance peaks, training blocks and budget. Planning is the first performance tool.

02

Scouting & match plans

Every opponent is studied — video, statistics and patterns — to build a clear, simple match plan. After the match, a calm debrief and objective data from Baseline Vision.

03

Load & injury prevention

Weeks on the ITF World Tennis Tour are physically demanding. Training load and wellbeing are monitored daily in the J2Pro Circuit app with 4 key indicators and red flags, so decisions are made before an injury, not after.

04

Rules, integrity & safeguarding

ITIA / TIPP certified coach, GPTCA B-Level international coach. Full respect of ITF and WTA regulations, and a safe environment for every player, especially minors.

05

Logistics & budget

Travel, accommodation, practice courts, gyms and recovery tools organised in advance — so the player’s energy goes into tennis, and the family keeps control of the budget.

06

Tour autonomy

The long-term goal is a player who leads their own project: routines, decision-making under pressure and communication with the staff. The coach builds that autonomy week after week.

Circuit experience

A coach who lives the tour.

ITF & WTA coach — questions

What is the difference between the ITF and the WTA tours?

The ITF runs the ITF Junior Tour (J30 to J500) and the ITF World Tennis Tour (W15 to W100), the entry level of professional tennis. The WTA runs the WTA 125 and WTA Tour events above it. Results on the ITF World Tennis Tour earn WTA ranking points, which give access to the WTA.

When should a junior start playing ITF professional events?

It depends on level, physical maturity and ranking — not on age alone. The ITF offers reserved places and accelerator entries to the best juniors; we plan the first professional events so they build confidence and points without breaking the junior season.

What is the ITF Junior Accelerator Programme?

An ITF scheme that gives the best-ranked ITF juniors main-draw entries into professional ITF World Tennis Tour events. Choosing which events to use them on is part of the season plan.

Do you travel to ITF and WTA tournaments?

Yes. We travel worldwide for single tournaments, multi-week blocks or a full season, on the ITF Junior Tour, the ITF World Tennis Tour and the WTA.

How many tournaments should a player plan per year?

There is no single number. The calendar balances competition, training blocks, recovery, travel and budget, and is adjusted every week with the load and wellbeing data from the J2Pro Circuit app.
